The biggest mistake you could ever make in advertising

There are a lot of mistakes that you can make in Advertising. I won't bore with the list here, but there is the number one mistake - mentioning your competitor in your ad. There's an old saying in publicity that goes *it doesn't matter what you say about me, as long as you get the name right*. This mistake was made by the Chevrolet company in a commercial during the 2012 Super Bowl.

After an elaborate, and no doubt expensive, production, this commercial, for Chevrolet, ends by saying, *he drove a Ford*. Sure, they wanted you to figure out that, because of the apocalypse, and the end of the world, this guy had made the wrong choice in trucks. But here is what is left -

He drove a Ford
He drove a Ford
He drove a Ford

So, don't mention your competition. When they hear their name, they will start cheering. And customers will remember their name, not yours.
