How to size your photos for ebay

The single best thing that you can do to sell stuff for the most money on ebay is have great photos. Unfortunately, even though just about everyone can take digital photos, and lots of people have Photoshop, very few people know how to correctly size the photos. And the ebay site doesn't help, of course!

One clue that ebay gives is that it tells you to make the photos 1600 pixels along the longest side. If you're familiar with Photoshop, that information is under image size. It looks like this in Photoshop Elements 10, but this kind of thing hasn't changed in Photoshop for years and whatever version you have you will see something similar:

There are actually two numbers that you need to attention to, the Pixel Dimensions, which is where you size the width to 1600 pixels per inch (ppi) and the Document Size, where you set the resolution to 72. The reason that the 72 is important is that that is the resolution of a computer screen. It does no good to set the ppi to 1600 if the resolution is incorrect.

And be sure when you save the jpeg to save it at the highest setting possible. Don't worry, it will ask you. Slide that slider all the way to the right.

Now go make some gorgeous photos and make a ton of money on ebay!
