The most effective advertising in the world
When I first starting freelancing Graphic Design, back in my ASU days, before the internet, every once in a while I would meet with a client who ask me how to get "word-of-mouth" advertising. I could design ads for the newspaper, magazines, yellow pages, etc., but this wasn't something I could help them with. Now it is.
Word of mouth advertising is now exactly what people are doing on the web. It started with specialized forums, it grew into Facebook, and it's come of age with Google+. And this is how you do it:
Step 1) Write a blog. Be sure it's on Google Blogger. If you're looking to limit your audience (why would you want to do that?) choose something else. Write about your product or service. Be factual. Don't write like some guy on a street corner selling tomatoes. Show pictures of your product or service. Don't twist arms, just show stuff.
Step 2) Promote your blog on Google+. If you don't know what it is, go find out. Right now.
Word-of-mouth advertising is the most effective, and least expensive, advertising in the world, and it always has been. Start with that. It may be all you need to do, if you do it right.
By the way, don't expect your customers to talk to you, to "like" you, or to "plus" you. You really don't want a conversation with them, you want them to learn about you, and talk to other people about you. This is word-of-mouth advertising, not a fan club.
