Writing your blog posts to be searched for on Google

I was having lunch with a friend of mine today who mentioned how much they liked their new tablet, and especially its ability to access YouTube videos. I have to admit that this puzzled me a bit, as I don't use YouTube very much, except to look up how to do things. And that turns out to be one of its best uses!

The point here is that most people use the internet, whether YouTube videos, blog posts, or web pages, by searching for something. There may be *channels* and subscriptions, and followers and all of that, but the reality is that most people don't bother with that. If they want to know, for example, how to crochet a pattern on a quilt with a double-loop stitch, they Google it.

So, if you want people to watch your videos, or read your blog posts, design them to be searchable. That means giving them keywords so that they will show up in a Google search. That means creating original content, and promoting it on Google+ and Twitter to enhance its ability to show up on a Google search.

Sure, your friends will follow your blog. But if you want a bigger audience, tap into what people want. Information now, and found through a Google search.
