Selling stuff to rich people
I've known some very rich people in my day. And I mean, so rich that they seem to have lost touch with reality, driving cars that insulate them so much from the rest of the world they're practically seeing everything as if it's happening on TV, eating just about all of their meals at restaurants, spending more for a glass of wine than I spend for a week's groceries, buying cars that to me are the price of houses.
And selling stuff to them, while you would think it would be easy, can be very difficult. Because they're just regular people, too. They want good value for their money, and they don't want to feel stupid. They don't want to be ripped off, and they want a bargain if possible.
So, really, selling stuff to rich people (which can be very difficult to actually define) is exactly the same as selling stuff to anyone. Present a product or service of value, let someone see why it's an intelligent choice to make, whenever possible offer a bargain. And don't make people feel stupid, or taken advantage of. Nobody likes that.
So please don't tell me that you want to sell to "rich people", as if they just scattered money around without even thinking, as if they had so much that they're just idiots.
Selling, and Marketing is a difficult business. That's why companies pay for Marketing. That's why colleges offer majors in Marketing. That's why books are written about Marketing. So if you're looking for some kind of shortcut, because you want to sell to rich people, you're gonna have a bad time. Sales and Marketing are a science, and a business. If someone tells you that there's a shortcut, just put your hands over your ears and hum, and hope that they'll go away, because either they don't understand Marketing, or they're lying to you.
